A new mural in the new Undergraduate Academic Building on campus pays tribute to 41 women affiliated with UC Berkeley who made important contributions to the university and the world over a span of 150 years. Included among these prominent women is Helen Wills Moody Roark, a UC Berkeley alum (class of 1925) and tennis champion who won two Olympic gold medals, among numerous other achievements. Roark made a generous gift in 1995 that established the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and the Neuroscience PhD Program at UC Berkeley.
In 2020, the campus celebrated the 150th anniversary of the UC Regents allowing women to be admitted to UC Berkeley, and the new mural is part of the associated 150 Years of Women at Berkeley project. When the Undergraduate Academic Building opens for classes in the fall, the mural will be able to inspire current and future generations of students.
