HWNI member Markita del Carpio Landry, associate professor of neuroscience and of chemical and biomolecular engineering, has won a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship. The fellowships allow recipients to pursue ambitious projects under “the freest possible conditions,” according to the Guggenheim Foundation.
Del Carpio Landry develops nanotechnologies for use in both neuroscience and plant research, and the Guggenheim Fellowship will allow her to combine these two fields of study for the first time. Her team will investigate whether compounds extracted from plants used in Indigenous Bolivian medicine could have potential as treatments for neurological disorders. Read more from UC Berkeley News.
