HWNI member Markita Landry, associate professor of neuroscience and chemical and biomolecular engineering, is an inaugural recipient of the 2024 CITRIS Innovation Fellowship and AIC Awards. The awards were given by the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society and the Banatao Institute (CITRIS) at the University of California, in partnership with the Academic Innovation Catalyst (AIC). The program helps faculty turn their research into viable commercial solutions for society’s biggest challenges. Only three winning proposals were selected from over 65 submissions.
Landry will receive up to $200,000 over two years to investigate and commercialize nanotechnologies for faster and cheaper bioengineering of crops, which could enhance food security. In addition to her work in plants, Landry also develops nanotechnologies for neuroscience research.
