HWNI member Preeya Khanna, assistant professor of neuroscience and electrical engineering and computer sciences, has won a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director’s New Innovator Award. The award supports early-career investigators who are doing exceptionally creative research with the potential for major impact on human health.
Khanna will receive $1.5 million for her project investigating how different parts of the brain interact to control precise movements and developing stimulation techniques to increase communication between these areas. This work could lead to new therapeutic approaches to improve movement in people with impaired motor function due to conditions such as stroke and Parkinson’s disease.
